30 years ago the Grateful Dead arrived in Egypt and created one of Rock ‘n’ Roll’s most monumental achievements by playing 3 unforgettable shows at the Sound & Light Theater near Cairo. To celebrate the enduring legacy of this musical milestone, we’re streaming video of the first song, "Bertha" from that final night, September 16th, 1978.
This excerpt is plucked from the DVD inside ROCKING THE CRADLE: EGYPT 1978. You'll find 100 minutes of footage on the DVD -- including 13 songs from the night of the 16th. Another DVD highlight is “The Vacation Tapes,” a featurette of never-before-seen candid band footage from the trip.

Goosebumps
Seeing the Sphinx and knowing the band was going to play instantly gave me goose bumps from the most historic shows ever played. Thanx for sharing !!!
Peace
groovy
Excellent quality. Improvising performance. Donna proves again why she could not get in key. And once more, I still don't understand it. It's a darn shame.
Egypt
Goosebumps Hell! I want to jump up and dance. I heard a not so great copy of shakedown from these shows a little while ago and i was floored. Now I want a cleaner copy! These shows are soooo cool. And I'm not a 78 guy! (with a few notable exceptions....)Jerry forever
The 7th Wonder
Pretty, pretty, pretty good.
I thought the Egypt run was supposed to have sucked. But hey, wtf do I know?
Part 3
Damn that's nice. Sorry someone doesn't dig Donna but too bad. Part 3 is because this is the 3rd time I've gotta say "HOW SOON BEFORE IT'S IN MY MAILBOX". Thanks for all the teases but the most fun is still to come.
What a teeze!
Is it September 30th yet?
Still Yippin'
Very, very nice sound & picture quality!
If I could turn back the clock, I would have begged, borrowed, & sold everything I had to attend the Egypt shows.
The band really looks & sounds great!
Thanks!
Dead Slow
Great to see the boys in such sharp video quality, but this version of Bertha was so slow,
like they were taking Quaaludes. I'll have to listen to these shows again. As my memory goes, never really cared for them when I first heard years ago.
But would have been cool to be there.
If you come to a fork in the road, take it.......Yogi Berra
Afro Puffs!!
I just love Jerry's afro puffs, talk about funky!!
Bertha Video
Hey Dubwise...you might have been right the first time...Hate to burst everyone's bubble, but I thought that was slow-motion or something. Looked like Jerry was sleep-walking and Bobby was trying to wake him up. I saw them do Bertha not 2 months after this show and it was the best I ever saw. 11/14/78 Boston Music Hall. That was absolutely frenetic energy and blows this one away. I loved the Godchaux (sp?) era Dead the best. I think the camera was just destined to never catch Jerry at his best, sad to say. Speaking of his best...I am absolutely addicted right now to listening to Jerry's guitar work on "Expressway to your Heart" with Merl Saunders from Fire Up. If you want to hear some pure joy...check that out!
