Two magical, complete performances from Philadelphia in Fall '79, the basis for Road Trips, Vol. 1 No. 1. These Spectrum shows, 11/5/79 & 11/6/79, are now available in both FLAC and MP3; documenting the band in the midst of their sparkling three-week eastern swing and capturing the raw excitement of the first tours with keyboardist Brent Mydland.

Previously unreleased in their entirety, now you can hear both shows from start to finish. The 11/5 performance includes "China Cat" as the show opener and a standout set with "Eyes of the World > Estimated Prophet > Franklin's Tower." The next night features a 15-minute plus "Terrapin Station," along with an extended "Playin' in the Band" with solid contributions from keyboardist Brent Mydland.

This is a digital-only release, and you have the option of downloading each show separately (11/5/79 and 11/6/79), or saving 10% when you order the two full shows together!

hmmmmmmm

are they or aren't they broken up into individual songs? it's is so insane to get shows that are NOT one long smooth set, or lengthy section.

they are...they are not

avatar

they are broken into individual tracks that flow together in FLAC format.

thanks

Well this is a very welcome move in and I even got an email telling me about it. I really hope that these releases will continue and that everyone who has been crying out for whole shows supports them.

WELL...

Ifn's Badge says so, then I can't refuse... But, Hamal, do they "FLOW" together UNINTERUPTED without even a fraction of a secong separation in Flac format? (I's stoop-hed)

Flow What

T-Man, I'm sure the sets would flow seamlessly if burned to a CD (i.e. no two-second gaps between songs like Track-At-Once burning). But it's also true that my older iPod seems to hiccup when transferring between songs from any source, including seamless CDs or downloads. Not sure if other MP3 players have the same problem, or if new iPods fix it, but I agree it's an annoying "feature"!

A Fitting Tribute

The Spectrum was the only venue to host Dead shows in each of the four decades. It's slated for the wrecking ball in 2009.

In Rhino I Trust

Good call, full shows, which will make A LOT of people happy, and d/l's, something for everyone. You guys were not kidding when you said (I think w/ RT's Vol1 No1) that this was the start of an onslaught of releases. I need a second job now, thanks.

Regarding the iPOD question, it took me a while to figure this out, but you can link the songs all together to play seamlessly. Go to 'Advanced' and 'Join Tracks'. It will convert the songs to one long song.

flowing songs

FLACS should play without gaps. If you convert to wav and burn to CD use a programme that allows you to specify no gaps between tracks. Itunes for one allows you to do this this edit>preferences>advanced>burning

off-speed a ridiculous amount

These downloads are 2.7% (45 cents) slow, almost a whole quarter-tone. This amount is audible to pretty much anyone.

It's a little bit silly (and inappropriate) to make each of us who cares fix it ourselves, given that we are buying a product.

Where's the download link?

I thought the download link would be emailed to my in box after I purchased this joint package. But no download link has come over. What gives Rhino? My card has been charged and I have no way to access this download.
